Become a Home Library Service Volunteer

Bring books, connection, and companionship to your community Do you have a few spare hours each week and a passion for helping others?

We’re looking for warm, reliable volunteers to support our Home Library Service — a lifeline for people who love reading but are unable to visit the library due to health, mobility, or other challenges.

As a Home Library Service Volunteer, you’ll deliver books, audiobooks, and other library materials to residents in your local area. You’ll get to know their interests, brighten their day with a friendly chat, and help them stay connected to the joy of reading. It’s a simple act that makes a huge difference to those who may feel isolated.

What you’ll be doing;

  • Delivering library items to people in your community
  • Building positive relationships and offering a friendly, supportive visit
  • Helping users choose materials they’ll enjoy
  • Feeding back user preferences to library staff
  • Occasionally supporting with basic digital or library service questions

What we’re looking for;

  • A friendly, empathetic approach
  • Good communication and reliability
  • Access to a car and appropriate insurance
  • Someone who enjoys reading or audiobooks
  • Physically able to carry books and equipment
  • Aged 18+ (Enhanced DBS provided)

What you’ll gain;

  • The reward of brightening someone’s week
  • New skills and community connections
  • Support, training, and ongoing guidance
  • Reimbursement for travel in line with NCC policy

If you’d like to make a meaningful difference in your community, we’d love to hear from you.
