Become a Home Library Service Volunteer
Bring books, connection, and companionship to your community Do you have a few spare hours each week and a passion for helping others?
We’re looking for warm, reliable volunteers to support our Home Library Service — a lifeline for people who love reading but are unable to visit the library due to health, mobility, or other challenges.
As a Home Library Service Volunteer, you’ll deliver books, audiobooks, and other library materials to residents in your local area. You’ll get to know their interests, brighten their day with a friendly chat, and help them stay connected to the joy of reading. It’s a simple act that makes a huge difference to those who may feel isolated.
What you’ll be doing;
- Delivering library items to people in your community
- Building positive relationships and offering a friendly, supportive visit
- Helping users choose materials they’ll enjoy
- Feeding back user preferences to library staff
- Occasionally supporting with basic digital or library service questions
What we’re looking for;
- A friendly, empathetic approach
- Good communication and reliability
- Access to a car and appropriate insurance
- Someone who enjoys reading or audiobooks
- Physically able to carry books and equipment
- Aged 18+ (Enhanced DBS provided)
