Volunteer Driver – Cancer Care Transport
Healing Wheels North East CIC provides free, safe, and reliable transport for people affected by cancer across Northumberland.
Unlike services focused solely on chemotherapy and radiotherapy, we support the full cancer care pathway — from diagnosis to survivorship — including consultations, diagnostic tests, rehabilitation, wellbeing sessions, and pharmacy collections.
As a Volunteer Driver, you’ll play a vital role in getting patients to and from cancer-related appointments.
- Make a direct, positive difference to people affected by cancer.
- Flexible volunteering — choose the days and hours that work for you.
- Join a friendly, supportive team.
- Mileage reimbursement at HMRC rates.
- Comprehensive training pathway to build your skills and confidence.
- Opportunities for further specialist training and development.
- Build valuable skills and enhance your CV.
As part of our onboarding process, we carry out basic checks to ensure safety for our passengers and volunteers:
- Driving licence check (including DVLA online check).
- Confirmation of valid MOT, road tax, and insurance covering volunteer driving.
- Vehicle must be in a fully roadworthy, well-maintained, and excellent clean condition.
- Self-declaration of fitness to drive, with a requirement to inform Healing Wheels if any medical condition arises that may affect driving safety.
- Optional short induction drive with our Volunteer Coordinator to review journey procedures and safe driving expectations.
Volunteering with Healing Wheels is flexible.
