Theatre Event Steward- Salt & Smoke: Stories of Blyth

  • Organisation: Novo Theatre
  • Age Requirement: 18+
  • Meeting Point: Market Square (outside the Market Pavilion, look for staff in purple high-vis/t-shirts)

About the Role:

Join Novo Theatre for Salt & Smoke: Stories of Blyth- an immersive street theatre adventure through the streets that have shaped Blyth over 500 years!

We are looking for friendly event stewards to help us manage locations across Blyth town centre. We will endeavour to schedule volunteers at more than one location during the day so you get some variety and have the chance to see different performances while helping out.

(Note: The full audience experience lasts between 1 hour 15 mins and 1 hour 30 mins. Because this is tricky to fit into a volunteer shift, we recommend booking free tickets to experience the full show on a day you aren't volunteering!)

What you’ll be doing:

  • Help audience members know they're in the right place & signpost to the next location, if they should need help.
  • At one location, help to hand out/take back silent disco headsets to audience members, and wipe clean between each use.
  • Hand out leaflets and answer questions from members of the public.
  • Encourage audience members to complete our audience feedback form and share their memories and stories of Blyth.
  • Help keep the performance areas free of litter.
  • Supervising props/set while performers are on breaks, so not left unattended.

Perks & Support Provided:

  • Expenses Covered: Full reimbursement for travel (45p per mile by car or public transport tickets refunded) plus lunch expenses covered!
  • Free Tickets: Volunteers living outside NE24 can claim 1 free ticket to watch the full show on another day (NE24 residents and under-16s get free tickets via Eventbrite).
  • Team WhatsApp Group: We will use a WhatsApp group on event days for team communication (we will reach out via Assemble after you sign up for consent to use your mobile number).
  • Comfort & Facilities: Access to warm rest areas, free tea/coffee, toilet facilities, and scheduled breaks.

What to Wear & Bring:

All locations are outdoors, so please dress warmly and wear comfortable walking shoes (high-vis vests will be provided). Volunteers are welcome to bring a folding/camping chair to sit on during quiet moments!

Please select the slot(s) that suit your schedule when applying (flexible hours within these slots can also be accommodated upon request)
